MC8 Mácha's hidden treasure
including the most important peaks.
This route goes through often rough woodland terrain, but you are rewarded with mountain views. There villages we come across are of true Czech nature. And hidden. We’ll follow the whole Javorová skála ridge including its main peaks.
For mountain bikes! Over the fence to the bisons (Cunkov), left along the red route to Javoří, coming out of Ostrý turn left after the last horse corral on your left, a rough path to Monín (option of turning left above it through field and woodland). Then by road from Vrchotice under M2 (passing the Our Lady of Sorrows chapel) to Bolešin. Turn right at the end of Sušetice along the blue route to the chapel above the Veletín hunter’s lodge. To Horní Matejov then through woodland along the red route to Zvěřinec. A hike down to Zadní Boudy, by road to Přední Boudy – turn left to Nové Dvory at the dead-end sign, then Myslkov (pub), Vratkov and Veletín (pub). Cross the farm at Krošiček then a woodland tarmac path to Javorová skála… and the chairlift to M2.
Karel Hynek Mácha was inspired not just by the castles in Bohemian Paradise, but also by Zvěřinec. He visited his grandfather in the holidays in nearby Měšetice. There is apparently a hidden treasure under the remains of the castle, and there is also a mysterious knight who will protect the Czech lands when it is in most trouble – his mates from Blaník will probably give him a hand.
