MC6 JAN ŽIŽKA'S CAMP (TÁBOR)

On the path from Jistebnice, you’re sure to meet the large herd of deer near Kostelec which is kept by the local farm. On your return, you’ll appreciate the panorama of Borotín with its pond. But the most fairy-tale section is Ounuz above Monínec ski slope.

The route leads along the hilly „Hussite“ landscape of Jistebnická vrchovina. There are various opinions of the Hussites, but we’re more interested in the structures they have left behind. We’ve got a trip ahead of us with a fantastic destination – the reservation zone of the town of Tábor. The centures emanate from its ancient quarters. We recommend sitting out on Žižkovo náměstí in one of the many bars. Jistebnice is also worth checking out on the journey to Tábor, which is where the Jistebnický kancionál (Jistebnice Hymnal) was discovered, which contains Hussite songs. There is a beautiful view from Kostelec, from where we drop down into Tábor. On the return journey, we go the same route to Kostelec where we turn off to Borotín and arc round to reach Alenina Lhota and M2.

Tábor, one of the prettiest Czech towns, was built in the early 14th century by the Hussites on a rocky promontory above the Lužnice river. The town was adapted for battles and defence – the tower in Kotnov, for example is elliptical in order to better deflect cannonballs.
